Joao Da Silva joined Banner Environmental in September 2024, stepping into the Staff Accountant & HR Generalist role. His responsibilities cover various duties, from managing payroll and integrating transactions into QuickBooks to setting up new jobs and overseeing certified payroll reports for prevailing wage jobs. Additionally, Joao plays an essential role in onboarding new employees, applying for industry-specific grants, and organizing company gatherings like holiday parties and benefits meetings. His well-rounded role highlights Banner’s culture of flexibility and opportunity, where Joao feels empowered to contribute to business development and is encouraged to voice new ideas. The teamwork mindset at Banner, where everyone is eager to help and collaborate, is a quality Joao values most, making him feel included and appreciated from day one.
Joao’s skills extend beyond accounting and HR. As a trilingual speaker of English, Portuguese, and Spanish, he has proven invaluable when handling issues like resolving payroll discrepancies with employees who speak Spanish. This ability to directly communicate and solve problems efficiently showcases Joao’s unique strengths within the company. He advises anyone starting their career in environmental services to ask questions, step out of their comfort zone, and be proactive in learning. With his background growing up in the construction industry and a marketing degree from Stonehill College, Joao blends his academic achievements and hands-on experience in helping his father’s business, making him a natural fit for his current role at Banner.
Joao credits his parents, especially his father, for inspiring his career path. Growing up in a household where his father worked as a carpenter and painter, Joao was exposed to the construction industry from a young age. He frequently helped with both on-site and administrative tasks, sparking his interest in business and ultimately leading him to pursue a degree in marketing. His father’s dedication and hard work were a constant source of motivation, driving Joao to combine his academic pursuits with his hands-on experience to build a successful business and environmental services career.
Outside of work, Joao leads an active and dynamic life. A proud alumnus of the Ron Burton Training Village, he attributes much of his personal and professional development to this 7-year program, which helped him earn a scholarship to Stonehill College. He’s also had the life-changing experience of building a school in Guatemala, an opportunity he is deeply proud of. In his free time, Joao enjoys playing the guitar—whether it’s bass, electric, or acoustic—alongside watching sports like basketball, MMA, and soccer. His bucket list includes visiting Japan, Iceland, and the world’s largest cave in Vietnam, Hang Son Doong, a dream that combines his love for adventure and exploration. With his drive for success, passion for helping others, and love for new experiences, Joao is a valued member of the Banner Environmental family.
